This December has been a wild ride, so why not end on a high note?  We started out with a full week of giveaways to get into the holiday spirit, then hosted a ton of festive Christmas home decor ideas, participated in the 24 Merry Days of giveaways (some of which are still active!), and now we’re teaming up with the people over at Pepsi to host a Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash giveaway.

I wait each year for the Sierra Mist Cranberry splash to come out, since it’s a seasonal release, and this year was no different.  So when the people at Pepsi asked me to participate in the giveaway and share some of my receipes for the soda, I jumped at the chance.

It’s day 17 of the 24 Merry Days and it’s my turn to host a couple of awesome shops which have some goodies to giveaway to TWO lucky readers.

First up, the iconic string candle holder from Ferm Living has gotten so much press and it’s easy to see why.  It’s quirky, colorful, and can be arranged in a myriad of different ways.  Talk about flexible! Ferm Living is a go-to shop for Scandinavian style decor and furnishing and always one of my first stops when I’m looking for something unique.

24 Merry Days!

Love advent Calendars?  We do too.  We are halfway through the 24 Merry Days giveaway and I’ve been talking and tweeting about it for a couple of weeks now.  The entire event was put together by Audrey of This Little Street and is 24 back to back days of giveaways done by 24 different bloggers with 24 really wonderful prizes.

Calling the Young and the Talented

I don’t dip into fashion much here on House of Earnest, but by day, I do work in the fashion industry and I really got my feet wet in DIY with making my own clothing creations (you should ask my college roommate about the crazy stuff I used to make and wear!)  Although I may not share many outfit or clothing trends (except for on instagram!), I certainly love exploring creative new designs. I know there are so many of you who create and design out there, and Zuuz Style wants to see your style!

I was selected as one in a panel of judges to review and judge the last of three rounds of voting in Zuuz Styles’ The Young and the Talented fashion design competition. The good news is, you have the opportunity to enter! There are five categories for designs, and the winner from each category wins $500, so Hurry, because you must have all entries in by April 30th. Get it Going and Growing

It’s that time of the year. You can just faintly smell that spring is coming, but there is no doubt that more cold nights are still to come. If you’re the kind of person who likes to grow your own herbs and veggies, now is the time to get going on your seeds.  Plant them on a sunny window sill indoors now, transfer to larger pots in later spring, and benefit from the fresh flavors early in the summer.

A couple of years ago, I started from seeds and waiting until it was warm enough to keep the pots outdoors. Needless to say, we weren’t eating our tomatoes until Sept. This year I’ll get an earlier start?
