Friday Faves 9.21

ONE gold geometric lamp from Land of Nod, $69; TWO It’s no secret that I like things ‘dipped’.  Modernist dipped chair £395 from Folklore; THREE a beautiful embroidered pillow captures the colors of this fall, and mixes browns and blacks, just like I talked about last week. $110 from Dwell Studio; FOUR a sculptural and elegant decanter is definitely an must for a classic home bar, $155 from Empiric Studio; FIVE if you either don’t have the time or the strength to schlep a bunch of fall gourds home for your decor, Terrain will deliver you a crate of 7-9 assorted pumpkins for $68. SIX clean, modern lines and a naturally rustic finish are what makes this serving bowl from Julia Paul Pottery so special, $105.

Today is the first day of Autumn and I’m celebrating with a very fall feeling round up of my favorite things from the week.  I really just love the crated pumpkin idea, and goodness knows all of these colors are right down my alley for my own home decor.

This weekend, I’m excited to jump right into some of my own fall decorating (scheduled to share next Monday) and spend some time with Matty.  What’s on your agenda?

Have a FABULOUS fall Friday and Weekend!

Friday Faves 9.14

ONE Pendleton 5th Avenue throw is made from durable wool and is ideal for a night around a bonfire ,$138 TWO Terrain’s rustic copper fire pit is beautiful, but pricey at $1998.  If you’re in the market for one this fall, here is a similar version with a much sharper price tag. THREE I squealed when I saw these precious golden herb napkin rings.  The rosemary is shown (my favorite), but they also come in a variety of other gilded greens. $60 for a set of four at Rain Collection. FOUR this etsy shop has such a beautiful collection of return address stamps.  Get ready in advance for Christmas Card season! FIVE the design, the colors, and the texture are all perfection in this surprising find from Target, $29. SIX this nightstand (or side table) reminds me of a campaign camp chest from the ’20′s.  This one isn’t antique, but that means it can be yours! The Overland Cross Table is just $395 from Serena and Lily.

It’s such a beautiful Friday morning and I cannot wait to get into the weekend.  Both Matty and I are home (for the first weekend in a while!) and we’re going to spend some time with friends, do some projects around the house, and get everything ready for cooler months ahead.

Things were busy around House of Earnest this week as well!

Friday Faves 9.7

ONE a delicate little bowl for your earrings $55 by Tiffin StudioTWO keep your books tamed, but let your wild side out.  Pig bookends are $30 from CB2; THREE these ‘cheers’ coasters would make the sweetest gift. $32 for a set of four from Linea Carta; FOUR this striped teacup giftset could be used for so much more (I’m thinking a unique vase) $39 from Rain Collection; FIVE a message in a bottle is super cute, but isn’t available outside of Japan.  and for $43, you could probably put this clever idea on your DIY list. SIX I would have no problem finding room in my house for this indigo dip dye rug from West Elm $129 for the 3×5 – perfect for a cool new entryway.

This week just flew by. Obviously it was a short one for a lot of us, but aside from that, there was the perfect amount going on.  If you follow me on twitter, you might have seen that I just started working out again after 3 years off the wagon and we’re still without internet or cable.  To be honest, aside from it taking twice as long to do a blog post, I don’t mind it.  I’m not a huge TV person anyway, so not much in lost in my eyes.

This weekend, I’m excited to have coffee tomorrow with a local designer and blogger, Allie, finish reading my current book, and finish tackling this bad boy after about a year hiatus.

Anything fun on your agenda?

Living in the midwest, the end of summer has always signified the beginning of football season, and I really cannot wait.  I love spending saturday mornings getting geared up, drinking bloody mary’s and meeting up with friends for the big game.  Tomorrow we’re heading to a friend’s house for a big bash to kick off the college football season in our town and I’ll be there with bells on (and maybe some of the above fare).

Aside from the impending game, I’ve been struggling this week without any internet.  Blog posts have been going up at a coffee shop or the office, and I hope you guys haven’t been too thrown off!  I hope to get it back today (yay), and will resume regular early morning posting.

Around here this week:

Have a great long weekend out there, guys!

Nordstrom, $24 for a whole stack.

As I mentioned yesterday, I’m in San Francisco for the Evernote Trunk conference and I’m just a wee bit nervous to get up on that big stage and talk to 800 people.  That might be why I’m a little fiestier this morning than usual, but I’m going to assume this will work in my favor.

After the conference today, Matt and I are headed to Napa tomorrow for a little relaxation and a lot of wine.  I hope you all have a great weekend lined up!

A splash of color and pattern for your Friday!  I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I’ve been trying hard to broaden my horizons when it comes to adding color into my home.  I used to be a very neutral, minimal kind of girl, but I’m realizing that adding those pops just intensifies the purity of the neutrals as well.  I hope you’re enjoying this journey for me!

This weekend, I plan to get SO much work done.  I have a lot of projects that are half started and were interrupted by a last minute trip to India, so I’m looking forward to picking them back up and finishing some things off.  Matty’s out of town and I am going to make myself a big bowl of this – a recipe my one of my favorite new bloggers.

What about you?  Any fun plans?

Have a HAPPY Friday guys!

Friday Faves 7.20

ONE traditional block printing in India is still huge, especially with the resurgence of the trend in apparel and home goods here stateside.  I picked up a couple pretty carved blocks for my own projects, $2.  TWO water buffalo run ramped in that part of the world, and are highly revered.  Their horns are used, just as every part of the animal is used after it dies naturally. I picked up these salad servers for their beautiful striations and natural coloring, $3. THREE bottle dye and tye dye techniques are all the rage right now, and with the importance that India plays in the garment industry, they’re keeping up with trend, $1. FOUR inlaid precious stone in white marble is what part of the Taj Mahal facade is adorned with.  A little trinket box using the same technique is the perfect memento, $18. FIVE I really just love elephants, and had to pick up a unique one to go on my bedroom shelves.  This guy was just $8 from a beautiful new home store called The Wishing Chair www.wishingchair.in coming soon!

Well guys, I’m back in action.  I was able to work a full day yesterday and today I’m on the party planning train for my husbands big  Bavarian themed 30th birthday party tomorrow.  I’m so excited to show you guys pictures next week of all the festivities, and boy, will it be festive.  We have everything from a traditional biergarten tent to a polka band to pretzels and wursts.  We’ll all be singing ‘ein prosit’ and clinking beer mugs in no time!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend lined up!  See you next week!

It’s Friday!  Do you have plans for the weekend? If you haven’t been following a long this week, I’m in India for work and am sharing some of my past posts which get the most feedback from readers.  I get a lot of questions about creating a casual, thrown-together weekend gathering with friends, and this is something I do quite often!  I just LOVE when friends drop in on a quiet summer evening and I always make sure to keep a few things on hand for just such an occasion. There are just a few tips I have for arranging a flavorful and diverse cheese plate for house guests.

Use a variety of hard, semi-soft, and soft; aged and young.  Choose four – a semi-soft grass-fed cow’s milk cheese like gouda or cheddar, a hard italian cheese like parmesan or asiago, a pungent aged cheese like blue or roquefort, then a soft creamy cheese like chevre or brie.  Alongside the cheeses, serve a variety of textures and flavors from crisp fruit like apple or pear to soft tangy olives and everything in between.  I like offering my guests the opportunity to create many varied flavors to create a long and leisurely snacking evening.

Have a FLAVORFUL Friday and Weekend!

P.S. Things are going well here in India!  If you’re following a long on Instagram or Twitter ( both @houseofearnest) you’re seeing little snippets of my India adventures!  Be sure to follow – tomorrow I head to Agra to see the Taj!
