Cool and Cafe
Something about the warmer air moving in makes me want to sit street-side sipping cool and refreshing cocktails. Throw in a good book and I’m all set.
This week, try something new with the French 75. It’s a simple concoction of gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and champagne; and seems like something I could sip into the early evening before enjoying dinner al fresco.
I know it’s only Tuesday, but its already May!! Doesn’t the impending summer just do the same to you?
Have a SWEET Tuesday!

Welcome to the New House of Earnest!
I’m so glad you’re here! We’ve been quite busy this weekend getting everything ready to show off. I’ve been working with Amanda from Amanda Genther Design Studio to create a simple, beautiful place to share inspiration, projects and thoughts. My focus for the design was to let the projects and post be showcased. The three links right under the main logo give you the ability to pick a category that is just right for you.
One of the most exciting new features on the site is the ‘favorite projects’ area in the sidebar. I’ll keep this up to date with some of our most popular posts. Go ahead! Click around!
Because things aren’t getting shaken up enough, I’m also opening up House of Earnest to private advertisers for the first time!
The website wasn’t the only thing that got a facelift, however. The House of Earnest branding, logo, and purpose all has a slightly different direction, focusing more on how you can create beauty in your home and how we can help you get there. We are about Home, Made, Style.
Sit back, do a little snooping, and let us know what you think! We dare you not to find something you want to recreate for yourself!
Have an AMAZING Monday!

A New Look for House of Earnest
There are changes brewing around House of Earnest and I’m so excited to give you guys the much awaited update!
The House of Earnest site redesign is just about finished, and after some loose ends are tied up this weekend, we’re planning to launch early next week! I am beyond excited about all of the choices and changes and really cannot wait to share.
I’ve given you guys just a small glimpse of the direction from the little rhyme above and hope you love it as much as I do. I’ve been working with Amanda from Amanda Genther Design and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Since I work in product development for a living, I can be a tad picky and she has been so patient with me and just fabulous to work with. I cannot wait for you guys to see the completely finished product!
I hope your Wednesday is just delightful and you enjoy every single moment!

White Out

Strolling through Target this weekend, there was a whole display of white ceramic kitchenware with my name all over it. Although this morning we woke to show covering our back field, I couldn’t help but think about how all of this lovely white leads my mind to spring.
Maybe it’s the promise of farmers markets that are sure to be popping up soon, but for some reason these photos I shot yesterday of the all white kitchen accessories don’t make me think of the winter that is passing, but the spring that is arriving. And they’re making me think about how I’d like a big omelet this morning!
What’s got you thinking of spring?
Have a SIMPLY SERENE Tuesday!

Some exciting things are happening ’round these parts. You might have seen clues or snippets on Facebook or Twitter, but I’m working on a total redesign for House of Earnest! Woohoo!
I can tell you’re excited too!
I’m working with Amanda Genther of Amanda Genther Design Studio and couldn’t be more relieved that there is someone out there who gets my esthetic and vision for this blog – especially after seeing her launch her own new (& amazing) site.
The photos above are a sampling of the inspiration that Amanda and I have put together for the site style direction – I almost fell off my chair when I saw the photos she pinned and the title for the collection of images: Mid-century Natural. I want to keep a very simple, natural, and style driven site. I can’t even wrap my head around how excited I am, especially after I got my first logo proofs last night… to be shared soon!
Have a FANTASTIC day out there, friends!
P.S. I tweeted quick question last night and Katie and Mandy both deserve a shout out today for correctly guessing that I’m using my 6 yds of nailhead trim that arrived in the mail yesterday on a headboard!
For those of you who guessed my antique couch – you’ve reminded me how behind I am on this project. For my brother, who guessed “something for Matt to work on” you’re wrong too!
Follow on twitter, instagram, or facebook and want to hear nightly craziness, musings, or fun questions like this!
Mid-Week Mid-Winter Eye Candy
After a long day at a work conference yesterday with just 5 minutes at home, then an early meeting this morning, this January is proving to be exhausting! I am excited to share these inspiring tidbits with you today, and even MORE excited to show you an awesome colorful Valentines day DIY tomorrow.
Have a GREAT Wednesday!
House of Earnest is Turning ONE!
Today is my very first blogiversary! Can you believe it?
I sure can’t.
Part of me feels like I’ve been blogging forever and another part of me still feels like I’ve just skimmed the surface of all I want to do an accomplish here! I have so many exciting plans and goals for year TWO:
- Improve my photography (and consequently my photographic documentation that I post)
- Start a couple of regular column-style posts (one is coming tomorrow!)
- Learn photoshop (got it for my birthday last week, so now I’m ready to learn!)
- Post more fun DIYs (and get one in print!)
- Post more original ideas and content that you won’t see splashed across every other part of the internet
- Get more reader interaction going on
- Tweak and refine my branding, graphics, and site design.
- Collaborate with some other bloggers to increase the variety and voice of the blog
- Secure some amazing sponsors!
So that’s all I can think of at this moment, but there are always about a billion goals swimming around in my brain. I dream way bigger than my mental capacity can sometimes handle! I am just beside myself excited for what’s to come! It is kind of ironic that I head out today for my very first blogging design conference – my mind is going to be blown!
Cheers to another year! (clink)
Have a HAPPY HAPPY Wednesday!

Let it Snow!
Most people would be dreaming of sun and sand about this time of year, but it’s been so unseasonably warm, that I really am eager to see some snow. I feel a little ‘off’ without the cold temperatures to keep me inside cozying up in front of the fire. Luckily, next week at this time, I’ll be jetting off to Utah in search of some colder weather and possibly my fill of snow!
Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
Have a LOVELY Wednesday!
Thoughts for 2012
While growing up my mom would always tell me, “Just be yourself”. This was usually when I was on my way to cheerleading tryouts, student council elections, college, dates or job interviews. As I was engrossed in self-doubt, she didn’t have any because she knew that ‘myself’ was good enough in all of these situations.
This is something that I struggle with every single day. It seems so easy, so why does being myself cause me to seize up in fear?
The other day in the kitchen I was doing my own vocal mash-up of Starship’s ‘We Built This City” along with Patrick Stump’s ‘This City’. The song was complete with choreographed dance moves and some of the original lyrics might have been changed to include my dog’s name. As I’m doing this, and my husband is trying is best to run from the insanity, I realize that this a glimpse of the real me; a glimpse of the true ‘myself’.
As I see more and more glimpses like the dance/song episode in the kitchen I realize that being yourself is hard because, especially when we’re young, we don’t even know who ‘ourselves’ is. We’re just beginning to form the pieces that, when put together, make us unique.
This has all come to a peak recently because I’m headed to a blog conference in a couple of weeks with some big names in the blogging industry. As I’m preparing my media kits, business cards, clothes, and thoughts I’m in need of constant reminders that all of these things should reflect the real me, that my blog should reflect the real me, and that the real me is a good thing.
I’m making this my new years resolution. I’m resolving to be true to myself, to work harder at being myself, and develop into the person I’ve always seen myself as… even if that does include an impromptu song and dance extravaganza here and there.
May this week be a fresh new start!
Have a WONDERFUL Monday!
