Quirky, Colorful, and Pain-free

I’m back at work today after a long weekend in Las Vegas, and I definitely need a little help to get going this morning!

I love the fun packaging on these meds from Target. So colorful and quirky, it might make your pain go away just a little bit quicker.

I hope your Monday is as pain-free as possible!

Style Splurge: Linen Sheets

This style splurge is one that seems truly indulgent to me.   Some would argue, however, that linen sheets are also practical. They are supposed to wear well over time and become softer with age.

I am pretty particular about the kind of sheets I use, and my husband is definitely vocal about sheets that rub him the wrong way (pun intended).  One time he accused me of scooting over onto his side of the bed after he left for work and moving around a bunch so his side would pill.   This is obviously a pretty outrageous claim, but maybe we would both have a happy nights’ sleep with some cool, crisp linen sheets on our bed.

aaaaand if you think that all linen sheets only come in boring shades of natural flax,  you’re wrong!  Linoto carries some pretty amazing colors.  These aqua ones caught my eye, although  don’t think they’d necessarily work in my bedroom.

I want to know what you think?  Have you heard good things about linen sheets?  Are they something you’d splurge on?

Have a FABULOUS day out there!

On My Radar: Hoxton Street Monster Supplies

I first saw photos of this store on Remodelista, and couldn’t help but share with you guys. The story behind such an odd, but innovative concept is actually quite wonderful.  We Made This ltd, a group of graphic designers specializing in print work, were inspired to create a writing workshop where professional writers and volunteers could help children ages 8-18 by tutoring them one-on-one.  They created Hoxton Street Monster Supplies as a fantastical storefront..for just behind a set of shelves, their not-for-profit writing workshop, Ministry of Stories, hides.

The store for monsters exists not only serve as an inspiring platform for the imagination of the children, but also to help fund the project.  Isn’t this just a wonderful combination of design and fun? Spend some time browsing the websites above, it looks like the group had a ton of fun putting it together!

I hope you don’t run into any monsters this Thursday!

Hidden Treasures: Favorite Etsy Shops

For this month’s post, I thought I would change up my usual “hidden treasures” find, to share with you guys my most favorite Etsy shops!

Etsy is where I usually begin searches for inspiration, customization, and one-of-a-kind pieces that I know won’t be easily duplicated or overly used.  I have become a regular stalker of several shops… and may or may not be guilty of impulsively buying pieces the day they are posted so that I won’t miss out….

1. High Street Market

This is my favorite shop for beautiful vintage finds.  Since my husband and I are expecting a baby girl in February, my mind has of course turned to nursery planning!  However, I gave in and ordered a few things before we knew what we were having, and now have some really unique pieces to incorporate into a boy’s room someday!  Here are some of my most prized purchases…

Vintage deer antlers mounted on a solid wood plaque

Vintage pen and ink illustration drawing framed, black and white

Pair of vintage black horse head bookends, Hollywood Regency

2. Woodyliana

Oh Schumacher.  This is the shop where I was serendipitously introduced to Schumacher fabrics, and I am smitten, to say the least.  Not only are all of Woodyliana’s fabric choices unbelievably chic and timeless, but her craftsmanship is superb, and by that I mean perfect.  So far, my Hot House Flowers pillows have been my only indulgence… but I am eyeing these other patterns for my library… baby girl’s room… guest room… I sometimes get carried away.

Custom order for LACEY - 3 Doublesided Hot House Flowers in Spark 22 sq

Romo Verbena in Dijon - 20x20

Pair of GP J Baker Nympheus pillows in Biscuit/Taupe 20 sq.

3. Bibitty

Hands down the most sophisticated baby décor I have found to date.  Since I am personally opposed to themed nurseries and matchy-matchy coordinating everything, I am pulling much of my inspiration from this gorgeous, limited edition Italian Alphabet print.  It will be phenomenal once it is framed and hanging.  The colors are divine, the feeling is so me.

Limited Edition 11x 14 Bibitty Italian Alphabet Poster adds Old World Style with a Chic Twist

4. Janet Hill Studio

I am really just beginning my understanding of how I appreciate art, and while these might seem simple, I adore the color choices and bright feeling in her pieces.  This one I ordered for my sister-in-law for her birthday, because she is so shoes.

 Dancers- Open Edition Print

And this one is titled, The English Major, and it is most definitely on my wish list!

The English Major- Open Edition Print

5. Aisyah Ang

While still sitting on my favorites list, Aisyah’s work just speaks volumes to me and I cannot wait to own one of her amazing pieces.  These are just a couple of my favorites…

Original Painting Large Abstract Mixed Media Art by Aisyah Ang 36x36x1.5 inches with Cert

Original Painting Abstract Mixed Media Art by Aisyah Ang with Cert 20x20 inches

I hope you find something special that makes you smile from one of these sellers, because I cannot say enough about the Etsy community and how endless your options are when it comes to picking up the perfect hidden treasure!

Happy Month of Erin!

On My Radar: Raw Art Letterpress – Quotable and Personalized Prints

Last week I stumbled upon Raw Art Letterpress and spent hours looking through every single print.  I could immediately think of several people for whom I wanted to buy one – myself included! I went ahead and settled on two prints, one for my brother’s graduation and one for myself (to go on the amazing built-ins that will soon grace my master bedroom).

Colette Urquhart is the artist behind the imperfect perfection of these prints and made up the ‘raw art letterpress’ process back in 2009.  She hand cuts all of the plates & every letter with love from recycled materials.

And now for the SUPER EXCITING GIVE-A-WAY news!!  Today, I am giving ONE LUCKY READER the opportunity to win a print from Raw Art Letterpress!!  Choose from one of the many fabulous quotes or one of the amazing personalized prints!

There are TWO ways to enter!

1. Head on over to Colette’s store at Raw Art Letterpress, then come on back here and leave a comment about which print is your favorite and why.  So simple!

2. ‘Like’ House of Earnest of Facebook HERE and leave your comment about which print from Raw Art Letterpress is your favorite!

The winner will be picked at random and announced Wednesday, July 20th! Enjoy, and good luck!

Have a BEAUTIFUL Wednesday!

White Wooden Floors – Bad or Brilliant?

20110705-120345.jpg

I’m loving this room today from stylizimo, maybe because it looks so serene and I feel like I could use a nice quiet space… Or maybe because the white painted wooden floors make the room almost exclusively white.

White floors have been on my radar for some time now. They pop up on all of the Scandinavian blogs and magazines I read and I’m thinking about trying them in my guest bedroom this summer. If they work out well, I’ll consider it also for my master bedroom, but what are your thoughts?

I’ll be driving back to Ohio today from my brief poolside escape from reality. I hope you all have a MAGNIFICENT Tuesday!

On My Radar: Isabelle Abramson Ceramics

I cannot help by look at these beautiful ceramics and smile.  I pour over each style and have been contemplating (for a while now) which one I want.  All of these bowls are handmade by Isabelle Abramson,  a self-taught artist who works in porcelain, silver, gold and platinum.

The lacy, delicate details are almost as appealing to me as the natural handmade imperfections that make these bowls and vases so unique. I’m headed off to NYC today for a wedding and I am wishing I would have bought one of these for the bride and groom… maybe the next wedding!

Which one is your favorite?

Vacation Envy: Turks and Caicos

After Erin’s Anniversary trip wraps up, she’ll return refreshed and revived, which has sparked some dreams of my own romantic getaway.  It has been a while since my event planner (otherwise known as my better half) and I have been on a tropical vacation… and I am dying to get here one day…

Ah… Turks and Caicos.  If I set my feet in the sand of these beaches, I might not come back.  A rainy day makes the yearning even deeper, along with the insane level of amazing that is this fully staffed villa.   Pay attention to the detail in the design here as well.  The European influences step it up from beach house to purely exquisite.  The built-ins, French doors, and that delicious kitchen island are just divine.  Take a look…

The dining room is especially perfect in my eyes as I have been dreaming of crisp, white slip-covered parsons chairs paired with a rustic trestle table for our breakfast area.  I have enjoyed posting for you guys this week!  Check back soon for a recap of Erin and Matt’s Hawaiian vacation… and more guest posts!

On my Radar: Botanical prints

I already expressed my unrelenting case of the spring fever and while most people don’t care for rain, it reminds me of the fresh newness that is about to envelop the loitering delay of winter.  I don’t mean to be giving you a step by step on Ohio weather, but around March of each year I get this overwhelming appreciation for all things botanical (this could have been why my entire April wedding was plant themed…).  Regardless, I LOVE botanical prints and I love them year round – I am just feeling especially fond of them this week!

How are you feeling about botanical prints? Let me know in the comments section of the post!  Now, I have to go because I’m super late!
