Christmas Morning Covered

Matt and I relish in our Christmas mornings together at home.  Although being with family is so valuable to us, it’s peaceful and comforting to spend some quiet time alone with my honey before the running around town ensues.  Even if your Christmas morning includes lots of family, they’re sure to love this fruity, sweet pastry.

Growing up we always had cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning, and I’m a sucker for nostalgia, so it’s  tradition for me to do the same. This year, I’m mixing it up a tad with some Tangerine and Pistachio sticky buns.

They’re a fresh, fruity departure from regular rolls and easy to make.  If you want to look like a rockstar on Christmas morning, keep reading for the recipe.

Have a MERRY Tuesday!

Tangerine and Pistachio Sticky Buns

Yield: 8 Buns

Time: 45 Minutes (15 active)

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Refrigerated pizza dough (I get mine at Trader Joe’s)
  • 1 cup Tangerine Marmelade
  • 3/4 cup shelled, chopped pistachios
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Whisk together brown sugar and pistachios and sprinkle 3 tablespoons of the sugar mixture into the bottom of an 8″ round pan. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons of melted butter.

Roll and stretch pizza dough into approx 18 x 12 rectangle.  Spread rectangle with marmalade leaving a 1 inch border.  Sprinkle remaining sugar mixture over the marmalade and drizzle with remaining butter.

Starting from one end, roll the dough like a jelly roll.  Slice the roll into 2 inch slices and place in the prepared pan.   Bake for 35 minutes.

I hope this recipe can make your Christmas morning delicious!

Yum! These look SO good! My family always has rolls for breakfast on Christmas morning too…my dad makes the same (or a very similar) meal year after year and I love the tradition of it. Merry Christmas!

My husband and I have been trying to do Xmas Eve/Xmas morning by ourselves the last several years, too. It is so nice to have that down time with just each other for our own traditions. It causes a little drama w/ the families, since we are all in different states and can’t just pop in after breakfast or whatever and instead have to drive 4 or 6 hours. But it is worth it.

Our Christmas breakfast tradition that last 5 years or so has been a sort of homemade breakfast hot pocket – I am much more of a savory than sweets person, but your spin on sticky buns looks delicious, too.
