Succulent Terrarium

It is super easy, so I’m not sure what I was waiting for, but it actually took me about 30 minutes total – something YOU can do quickly at home! I made somewhat of a ‘desert’ terrarium.  Succulents are so easy to care for and will work best for you if you don’t have a green thumb.  I bought 4 different varieties of succulents (one aloe!) for a giant globe.  Vary this depending on your vessel size and don’t over crowd with plants, you can always fill in the negative space later.

You will need:

river rocks

smaller pebbles

soil

plants

extras! (moss, rocks, wood, figurines)

1. Fill the bottom of a clean vessel, first with large river rocks, then with smaller pebbles.

2. Since you’re working in a tight space, place all of your plants on top of the rocks, then fill in around the plants with enough soil to cover the roots.  If you desire, you can wet down the potted dirt and roots to spread them out.

3. Add any of the extras you would like!

I added some moss and a nice rock, both harvested from my backyard.

Moss doesn’t traditionally doesn’t grow with succulents (one likes it dark and humid, the other sunny and dry), but keeping the top of the moss misted with a spray bottle will keep it as moist as necessary without over watering the succulents. I found the moss in my yard at the bottom of the first tree I went to – super easy to find!

…and Voila! Three steps to an amazing terrarium! Enjoy!
