As you may know, Matt and I are planning to go to Africa for our 5 year wedding anniversary, which isn’t for another 2.5 years, but I’ve taken to exploring some pretty digs just for research purposes.
Stanley’s camp in Okavango looks right up my alley. Not only does it boast the amazing opportunity to interact quite closely with elephants (something on my bucket list), but it’s accommodations and furnishings are downright stunning, and they’re inspiring me (especially this time of year) to add more outdoor elements into my home.
Can you imagine staying out in the open air of such beautiful landscape?
It looks dangerous in the way that I’d go and never want to leave! The lush, natural surroundings aren’t overwhelmed by the luxury decor, but otherwise emphasized. In each tent, the view is paramount, but grass furniture, natural colors, and subtle lighting add such a luxurious touch without being over-the-top.
I think there are a ton of elements I’d like to add to my own home, from chandeliers in unexpected places to natural fibers.
Do you like the mix of outdoors and in? How do you bring the outside in at your home?

Such a beautiful setting for a wedding anniversary! You guys are such travelers!
Love these luscious digs out in the middle of nowhere! That is a once in a lifetime dream vacation right there. How exciting to be planning a trip like that. I’ve been looking locally into doing a little glamping ourselves. Thinking there are some beachside forests calling our name this fall.
That place looks PERFECT for an anniversary – so gorgeous! And, what an fabulous idea to celebrate 5 years in Africa. I love having plans like that to look forward to
Wow, what an amazing trip you’ve got planned! And very goal-oriented of you to set it so far out.
Those accommodations are gorgeous. I’ve seen little tiki hut type accommodations in these amazing tropical places that have that similar outside-meets-inside vibe. Just beautiful.
I don’t really have anything planned! I just know we’re doing Africa, so I want to start some of the legwork now!
I stayed in an indoors/outdoors place like this in Kenya years ago – loved it!
That place is stunning! I love the open air aspect. If I stayed I think I’d have trouble keeping myself from moving in
How cool that you two are going to Africa!
We went to South Africa at the beginning of this month and got to stay at a few gorgeous tent-style safari places. AMAZING. Very inspirational for a luxurious back deck
Wow, this looks amazing! I love your anniversary idea- I think big travel like this is so important in our lives. I’m headed to Africa in spring 2013! My brother is working there for the next year so it’s forcing me to get my act together and go. Now I need to figure out how I can stay in this place!
Ah it looks perfect! I’ve always wanted to go to Africa. On my bucket list!
First off…I just discovered your blog and I will be adding it to my daily reads. So cute, I love it!
I do try to mix outside elements inside. Plants, an open floor plan, and open windows help me feel as connected to the outside while being in the middle of the city.
Not sure where you’re planning on going in Africa but I was in Kenya and Mombasa last year and both were fantastic. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi is a must see and I ventured out to the Masai Mara for a safari where I was able to stay in a beautiful tented complex. I liked to call it glam+camping=glamping
You should know that even the “middle of the road” accommodations are still very nice if you’re working with a budget. And when you’re ready to really relax Mombasa is a beautiful costal town with white sand beaches. Hope you have the time of your lives and happy early anniversary!
