Reader Favorites: Industrial Orbit Chandelier

You might have seen my orb chandelier in the office tour last week, or you might have been following House of Earnest since the chandelier made its debut last August.

Either way, this chandelier has definitely been in the top five viewed tutorials and posts for the past year.  It was a fun project to make, and costs way less than purchasing a similar one from any of the many retailers who are selling similar styles. I was pinning rooms with these chandeliers for a few months, and doing some general investigating before I decided that they were all just a little too ornate for me, and I’d be better off to take the plunge and just make one.

Difficulty-wise, it’s about a six on a one to ten scale based on the fact that it uses a riveting tool, which isn’t so common in most households, but only costs around $19 in case you’re interested in one.  If you’re newer to House of Earnest, and are not familiar with this project, you can keep reading below for the full tutorial!  The entire project costs around $50 to make (which includes the cost of the rivet tool), but it turns out so wonderfully, it’s worth it!

Pinterest Challenge Reveal!

*TUTORIAL IS LIVE! Click HERE!

For those of you who regularly follow Young House Love, you’ll know that they issued a ‘Pinterest Challenge‘ along with Katie from Bower Power, Lana from Making a House a Home, and Emily Henderson from Style by Emily Henderson (AND Secrets from a Stylist). The purpose of all this is encouraging people to get out there and start creating all of the things we love and pin on Pinterest.

I’ve been pinning pictures of these ‘orb’ chandeliers because they are unique and versatile.  I’ve seen photos with sleek silver orbs in a traditional home, rustic bronzed spheres which could be from medieval times, wood ones, white ones, and on and on.

I have been dragging my feet on what type of light fixture to put in my office and I felt this was the perfect opportunity. It is something that catches my eye, and it can work well in my all-white meets country modern space, which I have yet to debut on the blog… but I will soon enough! In the meantime, I’ll give you a sneak peek of the light fixture update!

The ‘before’ was a cheap ceiling fan painted the same wonderful (sarcasm) caramel color as all of the room’s wood trim (who would do that?)

I hit Lowes and picked up some three-foot strips of aluminum and got to work with a ruler, rivets, and drill!  I quite like how it turned out, what do you think?

It was much easier than originally anticipated (thanks to my husband’s super smarts) and I will be posting a full tutorial tomorrow!!  As with everything I create, I am planning to make a duplicate to sell on my etsy store and will be documenting that creation a bit more carefully than I documented this one.

In the meantime, give me your thoughts!  Love it? Hate it?

Have a FANTASTIC Monday!
