The American Dream

americana couch

For us who have lived in the states our whole lives (me), freedom is an odd thing to wrap our heads around sometimes.  Most of my life, I’ve thought about freedom as something our country has from other countries – our freedom as a whole.  It’s only been very recently that I’ve thought of freedom more on a personal level.  I am free to be whatever I want to be.  I am free to create a life for myself that I want to live, work the job I want to work, contribute to society the way I want to contribute.

Realizing the power of the American Dream has been top of mind for me lately.  I am still in the midst of working behind the scenes on my little adventure (VERY soon to be announced) and I realize that the world is at our fingertips.  Opportunities abound and are ours for the creating, taking, molding, whatever.

There are so many beautiful, wonderful countries in the world where people live happy and fulfilled lives, but there is just something about the entrepreneurial spirit of America, isn’t there?  Believing that we can do anything we set our minds to?

Here’s to the boundless opportunity and the power of dreaming the American Dream.  Happy 4th of July!

Individual freedom is the dream of our age. It’s what our leaders promise to give us, it defines how we think of ourselves and, repeatedly, we have gone to war to impose freedom around the world. But if you step back and look at what freedom actually means for us today, it’s a strange and limited kind of freedom.
